Respiratory Illnesses

Respiratory illnesses impact the respiratory system, including the nose, throat, airways and lungs. These illnesses share common symptoms, risk factors and prevention strategies. Examples of respiratory viruses include flu, COVID-19 and RSV. 

Symptoms affecting the respiratory system include:

  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Loss of smell or taste

Other symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
