Celebrate National Farmers Market Week from Aug. 6 to 12

Farmers MarketJoin the Fairfax County Park Authority's Farmers Markets as we proudly participate in National Farmers Market Week from Aug. 6 to 12. This special week, led by the Farmers Market Coalition, honors the invaluable contributions of our local farmers and food producers, promoting community engagement and supporting our local economy. The Fairfax County Park Authority hosts 10 farmers markets at locations throughout the county, so there’s plenty of opportunities to participate at a market near you!

Farmers Market Week will be filled with fun activities for all ages, including corn hole, trivia games, bubbles and live music. To show our appreciation for your support, the Park Authority is giving away free farmers market canvas bags and washable produce bags (while supplies last). They’re perfect for your fresh finds!

Help continue the markets’ streak of recycling food waste. We collected more than 13,000 pounds of organic food waste in June to be composted by our program partners Veteran Compost and Future Acres Urban Farming. Composting is a simple yet impactful way to create nutrient-rich soil for agricultural and landscaping purposes, all while making a positive environmental impact – and you can be a part of the process at any of the Park Authority’s Farmers Markets!

For those individuals and families eligible for SNAP benefits, we have great news! Selected farmers markets offer up to $30 of additional fruits and vegetables for free. SNAP benefits are available at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon, Annandale, Reston, Wakefield and Lorton markets. Visit the SNAP information tent, swipe your EBT card for tokens, and use them like cash at the market. Tokens never expire, so you can savor the goodness all season long.

To discover more about Farmers Market Week, composting opportunities, and SNAP benefits, visit the Farmers Market website. Let's celebrate together the bountiful harvest, the joy of community, and the vibrant spirit of local farmers!
