Budget
In the months leading up to February 2023 when the County Executive releases his proposed FY 2024 budget, county departments and authorities will be working through the baseline assumptions and putting together requests for additional support. These requests will first be compiled and reviewed by internal staff for possible inclusion in the County Executive’s Proposed Budget package, which will then be considered by the Board of Supervisors.
The Fairfax County Park Authority Board (PAB) is responsible for the development and implementation of annual budgets for the Park Authority Revenue and Operating Fund as well as the Park Improvement Fund. The County’s General Fund, which is primarily sustained by tax dollars, supports about 35% of the Park Authority’s operations related to parks, playgrounds, trails, athletic fields, and other non-revenue-supported sites. The Park Authority Board does not govern the General Fund, but does review and endorse the budget proposals submitted for inclusion in the County Executive’s Proposed Budget.
Since the Park Authority Board is a public entity, the deliberations on what is to be submitted are open to the public and present an opportunity for interested parties to provide comment and to have their voices heard while the PAB considers the final package to be endorsed. The schedule for PAB budget deliberations is as follows:
Wednesday, September 14, 2022 – 6:30 p.m.
Friday, September 23, 2022
Wednesday, October 12, 2022 – 6:30 p.m.
Once these priorities are submitted, public input then shifts to the County’s Budget Process. The Park Authority initiatives that are included in the overall Proposed FY 2024 Budget will be released to the public in February, 2023.
