Welcome to Fairfax County Police Department’s online Community Reporting System (CRS). This system allows you to submit police reports online for certain types of incidents that occurred within Fairfax County.

Please note that all cases submitted through the CRS are classified as INACTIVE, meaning they are not assigned to a detective or police officer for further investigation.

Reports are typically reviewed within three business days, excluding weekends, major holidays, and unscheduled government closures. After submitting a report, please monitor your email regularly, including spam and junk folders, as police personnel may contact you for clarification or additional information needed to complete the report.

Please confirm the following before proceeding with an online police report submission:

  • This is not an emergency.
  • This incident occurred within the Fairfax County jurisdiction.
  • I understand online reporting is for documentation purposes only and the case will not be investigated.
  • I am 18 years of age or older.

  • Sex crimes, completed or attempted.
  • Lost or Stolen license plate(s)
  • Stolen prescription drugs/narcotics
  • Stolen vehicles, completed or attempted.
  • Loss or stolen firearms.
  • Violent crimes, completed or attempted

If your incident cannot be reported online, please call our non-emergency number at 703-691-2131 to request than an officer be dispatched to take your report.

Legal Disclaimer

Be advised that it is a crime to knowingly make a false police report. Anyone found to have submitted a false report may be prosecuted under the authority of Virginia State Code, Section 18.2-461, and charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • You will immediately receive a temporary “T” report number for your records upon submission.
  • All incidents reported through CRS are reviewed within three business days, excluding weekends, major holidays, and unscheduled government closures.
  • If additional information is needed, you will be contacted by email. Please monitor your email regularly, including spam and junk folders.
  • After approval, a Fairfax County Police Department official report number will be issued and sent to you via an "approval" email.

  • See the instructions on the Central Records Division page to obtain a verification of a police report through a mail or in-person request.
  • Full copies of police reports are released only to law enforcement officers or by subpoena. However, if you were involved in an incident that resulted in a police report, you may obtain an incident verification form. It includes brief, written verification that a police report was filed, including the case number assigned to that incident, date and location of the incident, type of incident, and the officer's name.
  • Please allow 5-7 business days before requesting a verification form for your report.

  • Primarily for insurance and police information purposes
  • Case will not be investigated
  • Assists in preventing future crimes by providing statistics on trends, locations and times of violations.
  • May assist in the identification and return of stolen property recovered as the result of other investigations.

Some crimes may require evidence collection, photography or other investigative procedures which require an officer to respond to the scene of the crime.

No, if a crime took place outside of Fairfax County, please call the police department for that city/town/county.

Crimes committed due to race, religion, ethnic or national origin, disability and/or sexual orientation.

A known suspect is when you or someone else knows the person or where to find the person who committed the crime or the license plate number of the vehicle the suspect(s) were in. If there is known suspect information, please call the non-emergency number 703-691-2131 so an officer can be dispatched.
