  • Crimes that are in progress or have just occurred within Fairfax County should be reported through 911 or the non-emergency line at 703-691-2131
  • Crimes involving impersonation of Fairfax County Sheriff's Deputies should be reported to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office for investigation
  • If an officer has already taken a report from you and provided a case number, additional reports regarding the same event should not be filed through FICOR

Legal Disclaimer

Be advised that it is a crime to knowingly make a false police report. Anyone found to have submitted a false report may be prosecuted under the authority of Virginia State Code, Section 18.2-461, and charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Investigators will review your report and contact you to discuss your event.  Investigators will review the circumstances of your case to determine viability of investigative leads. Investigators will provide education regarding common scams and make recommendations for follow-up to be conducted by detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit.
  • Most victims of financial crimes are required to notify the police before filing an Affidavit of Fraud with the financial institution. This system will allow you to do that quickly so you can recover your loss. Timely reporting vastly improves the chances of a financial institution being able to successfully revert fraudulent transactions and recover funds which may otherwise be lost.

Actual police reports are not released since they may contain information critical to an investigation, or which could be used for identity theft. Verification letters will be provided by Financial Crimes Investigators for reports of Identity Theft only. All other verification letters may be requested from the FCPD Central Records Division.

No, your crime or incident must have occurred in Fairfax County, VA. If the incident happened outside Fairfax County, VA, file a report in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. The only exception to this rule is Identity Theft.

The Financial Crimes Squad takes over 4,500 complaints of financial crimes annually. This system is the most efficient way to process and prioritize those complaints. Reports received through FiCOR will be prioritized for review by the Financial Crimes Section as this is the most timely and direct reporting method. The review of reports filed by any means other than FiCOR may be delayed due to volume.

If you still do not want to file your report online, you may call the Fairfax County Police Department's Financial Crimes Section by phone at 703-246-3533. You may leave a message, and an investigator will contact you as soon as possible.

You may also go to any one of our Police District Stations and report the incident in person. Requesting to speak to an officer over the phone or requesting that an officer respond to your residence will not expedite the reporting process, and in many cases may delay the reporting process when compared to filing via FiCOR.
