Be part of public safety in Fairfax County.

From advisory committees to classroom programs and neighborhood events, FCPD offers many ways for residents, students, and community leaders to partner with their officers and help shape public safety in our community. Want to see the work first-hand? Schedule a ride-along with a patrol officer.

Youth Services Unit

The Youth Services Unit (YSU) inspires and prepares the next generation of community leaders by providing meaningful opportunities for youth to engage with law enforcement through mentorship, leadership development, career exploration, and hands-on learning. The YSU fosters positive relationships between Fairfax County students and the FCPD while creating pathways to careers in public safety. The YSU also serves as the Department's primary liaison to Fairfax County Public Schools Criminal Justice Academies and local college and university law enforcement programs.

Community Outreach Unit

The Community Outreach Unit (COU) serves as the FCPD’s primary resource for community outreach, crime prevention, and public education. Through strategic partnerships, proactive engagement, and collaborative initiatives, the COU strengthens relationships with residents, businesses, homeowners' associations, faith communities, civic organizations, and other community stakeholders.

The COU coordinates countywide outreach efforts, supports the district stations’ Community Outreach and Crime Prevention Officers, and oversees the Department's volunteer programs. By connecting the Fairfax County community with resources, education, and public safety initiatives, the COU empowers those it serves to help prevent crime, enhance quality of life, and build safer, more resilient neighborhoods.
