Lake Drive is an unpaved road in Loudoun County. The road is the only way to reach eight homes in Loudoun County. Part of the road sits on top of a dam, which holds back water that is in Fairfax County. An assessment of the dam identified bank erosion, upstream sedimentation, and other potential concerns that indicate a degraded condition and require action.
Loudoun County is leading a project to reconstruct Lake Drive and the dam. The goal is to meet Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) standards so that VDOT can take over future maintenance. The project includes putting a culvert (pipe) through a new embankment so that a tributary to Sugarland Run can flow freely.
Fairfax County is coordinating with Loudoun County on this effort.
