Project Background
This project will involve Natural Channel Design, which involves grading, realigning, and constructing stabilization measures along with replanting the site with native vegetation. The County’s projects are largely driven by various regulations regarding the quality and quantity of stormwater that flows through Fairfax County watersheds.
Project Description
The project goals include:
- Stabilize and restore sections of the stream bed to reduce potential for erosion.
- Reduce nutrient and sediment transported downstream.
- Protection of existing sanitary sewer infrastructure.
- Provide better connection to the adjacent floodplain.
Project Location

The project is located on Sequoia Farm HOA property within the Rocky Run Stream Valley. This restoration project will be taking place along the Big Rocky Run Tributary immediately downstream of Cedar Break Drive. The project is in the Cub Run watershed and has a drainage area of approximately 96 acres.
Project Phase
The project is currently in the design phase.
