Here are some of the ways Fairfax County is working to control invasive species:
Invasive Management Area (IMA)
IMA is a Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) volunteer program. It focuses on removing invasive plants from parks and replacing them with native plants.
Operation Stream Shield (OSS)
People experiencing homelessness remove litter and invasive plants. OSS is a partnership between the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) and the Office to Prevent and End Homelessness.
Forest Pest and Disease Monitoring
The Forest Health Branch monitors harmful insects and diseases that affect trees. They work on controlling pests and provide information to the public on how to protect our forests.
Helping Our Land Heal
This FCPA program restores damaged natural areas in parks. It rebuilds, repairs and maintains quality habitats.
