Project Background
The Herndon Crossing 1724DP pond retrofit project was authorized for design for fiscal year 2025 under the Stormwater CIP. The basin was originally designed as an extended detention dry pond but has been functioning as a wet pond due to clogging issues, sediment deposition, and water retention. The County had been maintaining this facility for years by removing debris, clearing algae, and dewatering but it still experiences maintenance challenges.

Based on community feedback and operational constraints, the County is evaluating retrofit alternatives to improve the pond performance while maintaining the facility as a wet pond.
The primary goals of this project are to:
- Improve water quality.
- Address clogging issues.
- Enhance long-term maintenance access.
- Respond to community concerns.
