Apply for FMAP funding after completing the eligible work and gathering all necessary documents. Before spending any money, check the program’s FMAP webpage or contact the Northern Virginia Soil & Water Conservation District to make sure funding is available.

You'll get reimbursed if program funds are available, the project is from the Approved List of Practices, and your application is complete. You should talk to Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District staff about your project before spending money for guidance on eligibility.

Check the FMAP program website for fund availability before spending money. If funds are gone, your complete application will be waitlisted. If new funds become available, waitlisted projects will be funded first, in the order they were received.

The Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District offers technical consultations for property owners dealing with flooding issues. During the consultation, District staff can help determine if your property is eligible for FMAP.

If installed after July 1, 2024, FMAP provides reimbursement of 50% of the total cost, up to $5,000 per property.

Renters can apply if property owners agree to the work and provide proof of this agreement with the application.

Applications are reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility. Successful applicants will be reimbursed within 60 days after completion of this review, if funds are available.

Yes, the program is open to all Fairfax County residential property owners and renters, common interest communities and places of worship regardless of whether the property is in a floodplain or if it has flooded before.

You may apply as many times as you want until reaching the $5,000 reimbursement limit per property.
