Urban Agriculture Roadmap
Northern Virginia Soil & Water Conservation District developed the Urban Agriculture Roadmap to explore how Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax can strengthen the local food system and build community resilience through increased small- and mid-scale farming and innovative food production.
The roadmap assesses the current state of local food production and food system resilience, identifies critical barriers facing producers, highlights successful urban agriculture models, and explores opportunities to better support agriculture in a rapidly urbanizing community.
Key recommendations focus on:
• Leadership Structure
• Policy and regulatory updates
• Funding and economic support
• Land access and infrastructure
• Capacity building
• Communications and outreach
Developed in collaboration with a diverse work group of local producers, community organizations, government agencies, and educators, this initiative has also led to the formation of an ongoing Urban Agriculture Stakeholder Team. Led by NVSWCD in conjunction with Fairfax County VCE, the team continues to advance solutions to barriers identified in the roadmap.
