Recycling in Audubon Estates is becoming easier and cleaner thanks to a partnership between Fairfax County and the community that provided 700 new 35-gallon lidded recycling carts at no cost to residents.
For years, Audubon Estates lacked covered recycling containers because its private trash hauler did not provide them and the cost of purchasing carts was prohibitive. As a result, recyclables were often placed at the curb in open containers, leading to litter from storms and wildlife. In response, Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination used funding from the county’s Plastic Bag Tax to purchase and distribute the carts, helping reduce litter and improve recycling services in the neighborhood.
