Meet Tucker Maney

(Posted 2023 April)

Tucker ManeyTucker Maney, a volunteer with Volunteer Solutions, understands the importance of connection and helping others “age in place.” She’s a regular social visitor for two older adults, has taken one woman grocery shopping, has helped sort and organize mail for older community members, and delivered food to several Adult & Aging clients during a special Thanksgiving project.

Tucker shared, “I enjoy it. These people are quite interesting.” She continued, “When I delivered the Thanksgiving food, one man said, ‘I so appreciate Fairfax County, thank you.’ They all seem to really appreciate it. It’s very rewarding.  If you have the time, it’s nice to talk with people who feel lonely. It doesn’t take expertise.”

Tucker grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, and moved to Fairfax during high school. She’s been married over 50 years, has two daughters, two granddaughters and two grandsons. She taught post-secondary-level math for 15 years and then computer science for another 15. She taught at Northern Virginia Community College (the Woodbridge and Annandale campuses) and George Mason University. She also worked part-time for the Navy, in the computer field. She has been actively volunteering during her retirement.

Thank you, Tucker, for all you do for our community, and congratulations on your Star Award!
