In accordance with the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC) and the Fire Prevention Code of the County of Fairfax (FPCCF), inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of all fire protection systems within a building, structure, or property shall be performed and documented.  When prompted, these inspections and tests are to be submitted to the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) on an annual basis via the Planning and Land Use System (PLUS).  Within PLUS, an ITM record exists to document the inspection process and house the reports.  

Getting Started

To upload reports to the ITM record, the property manager or owner must register for a free PLUS account.

Tip:  It is highly suggested a shared account be used so that staffing changes do not impact access.

Once registered, contact Revenue and Records at 703-246-4803 to associate your account with the ITM record.  This enables access to the record details and ability to interact with it.

Uploading Documents in PLUS

Thirty days before the ITM record's Next Annual Inspection Date is due, the system will send an email communication to the contact(s) on the record requesting the reports be uploaded.  This communication includes instructions on how a logged in user can locate the record on the Fire tab and to then click the 'Make Changes' link under the Action column to upload the required documents.

Inspections

The annual ITM process includes an inspection by an Assistant Fire Marshal.  This will include 1) obtaining the required documents if they have not been received via PLUS, 2) addressing any deficiencies the reports may have listed, 3) addressing any components not included in the reports, and 4) walking the building and property to ensure total compliance.  Failure to inspect, test, and maintain, provide reports, or act in a timely manner to resolve deficiencies will result in inspection fees.
