The Fire Investigation Section's (FIS) mission is to investigate fires, post blast inspections, and environmental crimes in Fairfax County.  We accomplish this through the Commonwealth (§§ 27-30 through 27-31.1) and county (Chapter 62) statutory authority, enforcement of the Statewide Fire Prevention Code, and collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies. Furthermore, our information sharing supports the overall fire prevention mission which includes life safety and community risk reduction activities.

All FIS investigators are trained in a variety of disciplines including, but not limited to, fire and explosive investigations, building code, law enforcement, and environmental crimes.
