Joseph Willard Health Center Closing During Construction Project

Joseph Willard Health CenterThe Joseph Willard Health Center will temporarily close in October 2025, to allow  for the construction of the Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center Project, which is scheduled to open in September 2028.

The Joseph Willard Health Center will be demolished and replaced with a new health and community center.

During construction, services will be available at other Health Department locations.

Clinic Services

Residents seeking clinical services – including immunizations, maternity services, pregnancy testing, tuberculosis testing, sexually transmitted infections testing and treatment, HIV testing and newcomer health screenings – can schedule an appointment at any Health Department clinic location, including the Franconia-Springfield Public Health Center, opening in October 2025.

Speech & Hearing

The Speech and Hearing Services program helps children and adults communicate more clearly with speech, hearing and reading services. Services at the Joseph Willard Health Center will temporarily end in October 2025.

Residents can schedule an appointment at the following locations:

  • Mount Vernon Speech & Hearing Clinic
  • Herndon-Reston Speech & Hearing Clinic
  • Beginning in October 2025, appointments will be available at the William J. Burkholder Administrative Center

Vital Records

The Fairfax County Health Department’s Vital Records offices provides certified copies of birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates for a fee.

The vital records office located at the Joseph Willard Health Center will temporarily close in October 2025. Services will continue at the following locations:

Vital record services are available Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM for walk-in service only (appointments are not available).

Woman, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program

The Fairfax County Health Department administers the WIC program in the Fairfax Health District. The program provides nutritional support to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women; infants; and children under five years of age. The Joseph Willard Health Center's WIC services transitioned to other Health Department WIC locations in December 2024.

JWHC will temporarily close in October 2025 to allow for the construction of the new Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center (WSHCC) Project, set to open in September 2028. The new center will offer improved facilities and expanded services.

Starting March 31, 2025, appointments will transition to prepare for Joseph Willard Health Center's closure. When scheduling an appointment, our staff will help you book your visit at the appropriate location:

  • Joseph Willard Health Center (JWHC) will offer appointments until October 2025
  • Franconia-Springfield Public Health Center (FSPHC) will begin offering appointments in October 2025
  • Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center (WSHCC) Project will start scheduling appointments six months before its projected opening in September 2028

No, you don't need to do anything regarding your records. Our health system maintains your information securely, and it will be accessible at any of our locations when you receive services. 

Speech and Hearing

From October 2025, services currently offered at JWHC will temporarily move to the William J. Burkholder Administrative Center building located at 10700 Page Ave., Fairfax, VA 22030.

  • This temporary site is near the Fairfax County Court House and is approximately 1.25 miles away from the Joseph Willard Health Center.

Yes, Speech and Hearing services offered at the Mount Vernon Speech and Hearing Clinic and the Herndon-Reston Speech and Hearing Clinic are not affected by this temporary closure. For all service locations, please visit the Locations and Contact page.

If you have a scheduled appointment at JWHC after June 30, 2025 (approximately three months before the move), please call 703-246-7120, TTY 711 to confirm your appointment location. Our staff will ensure you have the correct location.

Yes, parking is available onsite at the Burkholder building.
