The Fairfax County Health Department Speech and Hearing team is hosting their second week-long camp this summer. This camp will help children enhance vital social skills that will help improve social behavior and interactions with others.
During Social Skills Camp, Certified Speech Language Pathologists will lead small group activities, with class sizes limited to 10 children. These exercises will help your child learn how to cooperate, practice taking turns, and build listening and other skills that will help make navigating social interactions easier.
“We are thrilled to host camp again this summer. We look forward to helping more children increase their social skills while incorporating fun and engaging activities,” said Jessica Kollaros M.A., CCC-SLP, Rehabilitation Services Manager, Fairfax County Health Department.
Parents of children who participated last summer indicated a positive experience. One parent shared about their experience, "We appreciated how responsive the therapists were and the daily feedback provided.”
This summer, camp is offered to children 7–10 years old who have an active IEP (Individualized Education Plan). If your child does not have an evaluation/IEP, they must have an evaluation prior to attending camp.
Social Skills Camp will take place at Joseph Willard Health Center in Fairfax, Virginia, June 26 – 30th, from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
The cost is $440 per child, which includes materials and a mid-morning snack. A sliding scale offered for all Fairfax County Residents who may qualify based on income qualifications. Medicaid is accepted.
