In support of Fairfax County’s environmental vision, the Department of Land Development Services has established a voluntary Green Building Recognition Program to acknowledge designers and contractors who build green in Fairfax County. Self-reported projects are currently limited to NEW residential and commercial development.

Companies listed on this site are identified during the permitting and review process and apply one or more of the following codes or rating systems:

  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
  • EarthCraft
  • Green Globes
  • Living Building Challenge
  • Net Zero Energy Building
  • Passive House Institute US (PHIUS)
  • National Green Building Standard
  • International Green Construction Code (IgCC)
  • International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) – No Virginia Amendments (applies to residential construction only)

Additionally, qualifying projects are also subject to priority plan review. For more information see the Green Building Priority Plan Review page!

Submit a photo of your completed project to LDS-WebContent@fairfaxcounty.gov and include your issued building permit number.

Disclaimer: Companies listed on this webpage are identified during the permitting process via a self-reporting, voluntary recognition program. Fairfax County does not endorse nor recommend these professionals or their work.

Meeting the voluntary criteria of this program does not supersede any accepted proffer commitments or development conditions for projects separately associated with entitlement applications approved by the Board of Supervisors. Any deviation from the accepted green building proffers or development conditions associated with entitlements requires prior review by the Department of Planning and Development for conformance with the accepted proffers or development conditions.

If you would like to participate, please contact us at LDSbuildinggreen@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-324-5175, TTY 711.
