Claim Property

The Property Section receives and holds property collected by Fairfax County Police officers only. Items that are marked for release are held for 60 days. A letter is mailed to the listed owner of property when the police no longer need the items for their case and change the status to releasable.

Please include your name and phone number, the case number, and any other important information when leaving a message or sending an email. A return call will be made as soon as possible.

Claiming Your Property

Schedule an Appointment

Valid Photo ID Required

A valid, government-issued photo ID must be presented to claim your items.

Holding Period

Releasable property is held for 60 days. Once an item becomes releasable, the 60-day holding period begins. After 60 days, the items are destroyed.
