Huntington Levee Letter of Map Revision

Final Letter of Map Revision (LOMR):

On July 28, 2021, FEMA issued a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) as a result of the Cameron Run Levee project. The LOMR became effective on December 13, 2021, and removed the area protected by the levee from the FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). In a letter date February 23, 2022, FEMA formally notified the County that they had accepted the levee documentation submitted after completion of the project, as reflected in the LOMR. If you would like to receive a copy or the LOMR or FEMA's letter, please send a request to SWPDMail@fairfaxcounty.gov.

The area in the Huntington community with reduced hazard due to an accredited levee system is now mapped as shaded Zone X. Properties located within a shaded Zone X area are not subject to mandatory flood insurance purchase requirement for structures that have federally backed loans. However, flood insurance is strongly recommended because the levee does not completely eliminate flood risks for the community.

FEMA has updated its risk rating system for flood insurance through Risk Ration 2.0: Equity in Action. This rating system provides an individualized approach to risk assessment using new data, models and technology. Residents in the Huntington community are encouraged to contact their homeowner’s insurance agent to learn more about obtaining insurance through the new risk rating system. Please see links below to learn more about Risk Rating 2.0. FEMA’s Frequently Asked Questions about Risk Rating 2.0 addresses levees in questions 19 through 24.
