What to Expect
Sewer Service:
- Sewer service will not be affected for any homes in the project area during the first phase of work which consists of setting up bypass pumping.
- However, in the second phase of work when excavating trenches to lay the new sewer pipe, there will be a small impact to sewer service. When each individual home’s lateral is temporarily disconnected from the old sewer and reconnected to the new pipe there will be a short period- no longer than 8 hours/ a full construction day, likely much shorter- where the crew will knock on your door and politely ask you to refrain from washing dishes, doing laundry, flushing or using your water while they disconnect and reconnect your pipe. They will then knock again to let you know that you are connected to the new pipe and can return to using your water. Each home’s lateral must be connected one at a time, so the crew will work to inform you about when your lateral is being disconnected and reconnected. You will have notice and it will be posted on the project website when each address is estimated to have their lateral reconnected. This will happen as the excavation trench for laying new pipe is near your address.
Schedule: Work will take place during daytime hours only, with no weekend work projected, unless extenuating circumstances occur. The project is expected to take a year and should be completed with the roads repaved estimated for Fall 2027, barring unforeseen conditions.
Driveway Access: Temporary piping running in front of driveway access will be fitted with drivable ramps or will be directly buried in the asphalt in front of your driveway apron. If you need to leave while active work is taking place directly in front of your house, please give the crew 30 minutes' notice before you need to leave your driveway so they can clear an exit for you and lay down steel plates over any open excavations.
Traffic: During construction expect traffic detours that will be updated as construction moves through the area. You will see traffic detours and signage set up throughout the neighborhood closing access to certain areas to thru-traffic during the construction hours. During this time ONLY the residents of Newton Street or Vale Service Road will be able to drive in and out of their homes. If entering the roadway to come home, please slow down for the traffic flagger and tell them your address so they can flag your vehicle around the construction and into your driveway safely if needed. If leaving home and you are concerned about being blocked in because construction is happening right in front of your driveway, please give the crew a 30-minute heads up of when you need to leave so they can clear the way for you and put a steel plate for you to drive over any excavations. Anyone who does not live on Newton or Vale Rd and who tries to enter during the road closure will be turned around by the flagger. The traffic detours will only be in place during the actual hours that construction is happening, outside of those hours, traffic detour signs will be covered or removed and traffic will flow as normal. The traffic detours will move with the construction as the project moves along the street.
