On July 10, 2024, a Sheriff’s deputy found a male inmate unresponsive in his cell at the Adult Detention Center (ADC). The deputy announced a medical emergency. Additional deputies and medical staff responded to render aid. Rescue was called and continued life-saving efforts. The inmate was pronounced deceased at 7:54 a.m.

Per Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office policy, all in-custody deaths are investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department. The FCPD was notified immediately and responded to the ADC.
