On May 23, 2018, at approximately 11:27 a.m., a medical emergency occurred in the Adult Detention Center. A 69-year-old white male inmate did not respond to his cell door to receive his lunch. The post deputy entered the cell and found the inmate to be unresponsive. Several deputies and medical staff immediately responded to the emergency, started life saving measures and called for rescue. Rescue responded and continued lifesaving measures but was unable to revive him. He was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:49 a.m. Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office policy dictates that an in-custody death must be investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department.
