On October 16, 2018, the Fairfax County Police Department arrested former Deputy Keith Washington, charging him with carnal knowledge of an inmate (Code of Virginia § 18.2-64.2) and sexual battery (§ 18.2-67.4).

On August 13, 2017, a former inmate called the Sheriff’s Office and reported that she was sexually assaulted while incarcerated. The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Section immediately initiated an administrative investigation and relieved Washington of duty. Internal Affairs also notified the Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau who began a criminal investigation.

Washington resigned on December 14, 2017 in lieu of a pending termination.
