The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) maintains most primary and secondary roads in Fairfax County. Call their Highway Help Line at 1-800-367-7623 (FOR-ROAD) or place a work request on-line.
Less than 10 miles of public roadway are maintained by the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services under the Fairfax County Road Maintenance and Improvement Program (FCRMIP). Please note that no new roads are currently being added to the FCRMIP.
Many private roads are maintained by businesses, apartment/condo complexes, homeowner/civic associations or residents. For assistance in determining public or private responsibility for a road, please contact the DPWES Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division at 703-877-2800; TTY 711.

The Residential Traffic Administration Program (RTAP) works directly with communities to decrease the impacts of traffic and enhance safety in area neighborhoods. The RTAP program uses the following tools to achieve these goals:
- Traffic Calming
- Cut-Through Mitigation
- $200 Fine for Speeding Signs
- Watch for Children (WFC) Signs
- Through Truck Restrictions

TOPS provides subsidized transportation funds on an easy-to-use debit card for eligible older adults, persons with disabilities, and those with limited income who are residents of Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, or the City of Falls Church. TOPS connects riders with a variety of transportation modes and options, enabling them to travel affordably, safely, and independently.
The taxi voucher programs (Seniors On-The-Go!, TaxiAccess and Dial-A-Ride programs) have been integrated to TOPS. The paper vouchers that were previously issued have been replaced by a transportation debit card.
You will still be able to use your subsidized funds for taxi services, but you will now be able to access other transportation options.
