Fairfax County Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination (OEEC) recently released the Climate Action Dashboard, a single site for explaining and sharing progress with residents on the county’s ambitious climate action goals. The long-term goals include achieving community-wide carbon neutrality by 2050 and energy neutrality for county government operations by 2040.
The dashboard includes:
The dashboard includes:
- An overall metrics page which features the most recent community-wide greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory for Fairfax County, along with data for the three sectors most responsible for GHG: Buildings/Energy Efficiency, Transportation and Energy Supply.
- An infographic that describes the goals of the Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan, or CECAP, which focuses on reducing GHG emissions, or climate mitigation.
- Topic area pages that correspond to the five CECAP sectors (Buildings, Energy Supply, Transportation, Waste, and Natural Resources) and one for Resilience.
- Information and resources on each topic page for users to “Take Action.”
- A form for residents to share feedback on the dashboard.
Fairfax County also has emissions reduction goals for its own government operations and information about these goals and the progress made is also included in the dashboard. OEEC will update the dashboard over time as progress is made and additional data becomes available.
