Instead, these families are worrying about how to provide their children’s backpacks and school supplies for the new academic year.
Education is imperative in a child’s life, but unfortunately not every child is able to start the new year prepared for learning. That’s where Volunteer & Partner Services steps in.
VPS helps to support all families and children working with the Department of Family Services' Children, Youth and Families Division in Fairfax County. Some children are new to the country, some may have only one parent in their support system, or even be in kinship care offered by relatives or family friends. No matter the situation, each child deserves a bright, successful educational future.
Comfort Cases provided backpacks, school supplies and other necessities, and volunteers worked together to fill more than 2,000 backpacks for children throughout the region.
Participants had the chance to meet Virginia native, actress, and foster to adoptive mom, Jen Lilley who is one of the founders of "Christmas is Not Cancelled," a series of giving campaigns that support children in need.
Comfort Cases donated 465 of the filled backpacks for VPS to distribute to children involved with Fairfax County CYF. Through this partnership, any children connected with CYF was able to start the school year with a backpack filled with supplies!
In addition, at the time of publication our partners had provided 162 gift cards totaling $7,700 to help defray the cost of more specific items that teenagers need when going back to school.
