Each year Volunteer Fairfax recognizes the volunteers, nonprofit organizations, and corporate partners who work tirelessly to make Fairfax County a better place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards ceremony (previously scheduled for April 23, 2020) was cancelled. Volunteer Fairfax is highlighting those who are going above and beyond in volunteerism by sharing the Volunteer Service Awards Virtual Program. We are further recognizing these amazing VPS volunteers in the Volunteer Post Newsletter. VPS is so grateful for all the support our committed volunteers have provided! We couldn’t operate our programs without you.
Dan Brockwell – Winner of the Benchmark 250 Volunteer Hours Award – Dan has been a volunteer for the past three years with the Parenting Education and BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring program.
Saba Shakir – Winner of the Benchmark 250 Volunteer Hours Award – Saba has volunteered with the Administrative Assistant Program for over a year, showing extraordinary on-the-job skills! She is a true altruist with an impeccable work ethic who demonstrates a positive and nurturing attitude.
Marilyn Bugg – Winner of the Competitive Senior Volunteer Award – Marilyn joined the Body Safety team almost three years ago as a facilitator. She was motivated by a tragic event in her community to dedicate her time to changing the lives of children in Fairfax County.
Nancy Portee – Winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award – Nancy has been a mentor with BeFriend-A-Child for over 40 years. She has helped to influence the lives of many children.
Homework Helpers – Winner of the Youth Volunteer Group – Each of these remarkable young adults has shared their time and abilities to provide tutoring and homework help to younger children involved with Children, Youth and Families.
