Affordable Housing Properties by Supervisory District

In 2020, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established a goal for the production and no net loss of affordable housing at 5,000. In 2022, the Board then reset the goal to create at least 10,000 net new affordable units for households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income (AMI). Properties listed here are in development or recently opened toward that 10,000 goal. Content is organized by supervisory district.

 

Braddock District

Currently under construction, Fairfax Crest will deliver 279 one, two, and three bedroom affordable homes for families. Located on the campus of the Fairfax County Government Center, the development of Fairfax Crest provides a platform for the inclusion of a 15,000 square foot community-serving space. Located at 12020 and 12040 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.

Currently under construction, Little River Glen consists of 120 one-bedroom apartments for adults ages 62+.that are being refurbished along with an adjoining Senior Center. Located at 4001 Barker Court, Fairfax.

Ilda's Overlook opened in 2024 and offers 80 affordable homes to older adults. Ilda's offers a variety of support services for its residents. It is located at 10055 Braddock Road, Fairfax.

Opened in 2024, One University brings 240 affordable homes adjacent to George Mason University. It consists of two properties: The Belmont, which offers affordable homes for older adults, and The Robinson, which offers affordable homes to families. The Belmont is located at 4518 University Drive, Fairfax. The Robinson is located at 4530 University Drive, Fairfax.

The 9.6-acre property, located off the Dulles Access Road and near the Innovation Center Metro Station, is being considered for development of affordable housing. The address is 13500 Dulles Green Drive, Herndon.

The concept re-imagines the site of the former Franconia Government Center property as new multi-family housing. This idea could leverage private equity to build 120 affordable homes. Located at 6121 Franconia Road, Alexandria.

Currently under construction, The Exchange at Spring Hill Station will deliver 516 affordable homes in the heart of the Tysons economic district. Located at 8711 and 8721 Boone Boulevard, Tysons.

The Residences at North Hill opened in 2023 and features 279 affordable homes, including 63 for older adults. It is adjacent to North Hill Park and on the historic Route 1 corridor. The address is 7250 Nightingale Hill Lane, Alexandria.
