Dear Neighbor,

Come 1, come all to learn what we have in “common”! Join me for a Mount Vernon District (MVD) tradition – the 38th Annual Town Meeting – on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Mount Vernon High School and streaming on Channel 16 and Facebook. The highlight of our year is meeting with hundreds of you, our highly engaged, well-informed, passionate residents and business owners. You will hear community updates, participate in Q & A’s with your local leaders and take a trip with us on a virtual tour to see new developments and improvements happening all around us. Come early to enjoy the very popular Exhibit Hall featuring County and community services, starting at 8:30 a.m. this year!

This mailer is another of my annual commitments to you, keeping you informed of our key accomplishments of the past year and our focus and plans for the coming year. See inside for our 2024 photo highlights and mark your calendars for our 2025 events! Please contact my office at MTVernon@FairfaxCounty.gov or 703-780-7518 to tell us what you think of this year’s Advisor. Your feedback is important to us!

In very exciting news, this year we started the next phase of redevelopment at Original Mount Vernon High School (OMVHS), which will reopen as a major community hub in 2026, where you can connect, co-create, collaborate and contribute! As a special surprise, we will unveil its new name, logo and identity, exclusively to you at the Town Meeting. In 2025, we will celebrate the reopening of the new Mount Vernon Rec Center, another major community gathering space. We continue to look for new ways to engage with each and every one of you. If you have a community event, HOA meeting, religious service or any occasion you would like me to attend or make remarks, please contact our office.

As you have likely heard, we have significant budget challenges this year. Receiving adequate state funding for our schools would mean at least $600M more from Virginia, which could reduce the average real estate tax bill by $1,300. Please reach out and talk to your state representatives about this critical need.

TEAM MVD and I are committed to working with you to address your individual concerns, deliver a better quality of life and ensure every Mount Vernon neighbor, community and business has the opportunity to reach their full potential, while making the Mount Vernon District the best place to live, learn, work and play!

Respectfully yours in public service,

Dan Storck
Supervisor, Mount Vernon District
