Help Center

Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) will be the central platform to create and submit applications online, pay fees, track application status and receive electronic notifications. Customers will complete their zoning, building, permitting or other land development and environmental health processes online through the PLUS portal.

Step 1:  Determine if your record is available in the system.

View a list of Fairfax PLUS Records:
  • Environmental Health Module
  • Building and Site Modules
  • Planning and Zoning Modules
  • Fire Module

Step 2:  Review record and application requirements.

  • Select your application type from the Records List.
  • View record-specific submission requirements, review processes, inspections, and fees that may apply.
  • Review document requirements such as file types, plan templates, and naming conventions for applications that require supporting documents.

Step 3: Begin your application in the PLUS system.

For construction projects try our permitting wizard. It will walk you through the permitting process and provide written instructions you can print out and follow.

Note: Create an account if needed.

Step 4:  Follow the system’s prompts and notifications to complete your application.

  • You can pay most transactions online.  All credit card payments will incur a 2.35% charge for processing. Credit card processing fees are third party transaction fees and are non-refundable.
  • Use your bank’s routing number to pay online with an Automated Clearing House (ACH) payment and avoid a credit card fee. ACH payments are electronic payments that pull funds directly from your bank account.
  • Payments cannot be taken over the phone.
