This project seeks to restore approximately 1500 linear feet of stream channel. The existing stream channel has vertical erosion that has resulted in the stream channel incising below the effective root depth of the forest stand, disconnecting the stream from the floodplain, threatening tree loss, as well as damage to private property and residential structures. One of the structures is threatened by lateral erosion of the channel, where a 7-10 foot near vertical bank is within about 25 feet of the foundation.
Restoration efforts seek to raise the channel bottom to reconnect the channel with the floodplain and realign the channel, where necessary, to protect structures and restore stable slopes. Natural channel design will stabilize the stream bed, allow for riparian and wetland species to be planted, and improve water quality and conveyance capacity.
Project site is NW of Vienna, on HOA owned property between Kedge Drive and Freda Drive. Site access will be from the dead end section of Meadow Vally Drive.
