Holmes Run Tributary at Colfax Avenue Stream Restoration

Project Number: SD-000031-272

Project Update: October 30, 2025

The project is currently in the assessment phase.

Project Background

The tributary to Holmes Run between Lacy Boulevard and Colfax Avenue is experiencing erosion and widening of the channel. This has led to damage of the existing concrete channel below Lacy Boulevard and encroachment of the stream channel onto adjacent properties. If left unmitigated, the problem is expected to worsen, leading to loss of or damage to property and infrastructure.

Project Description

This project aims to stabilize the stream, with the primary goals being to reduce erosion and expansion of the channel, and to protect adjacent property and infrastructure.

Project Location

The project is located between Lacy Boulevard and Colfax Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia.
