DPWES Projects

The Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) builds and maintains safe, reliable infrastructure that protects public health and the environment, improves quality of life for residents. Capital Facilities refers to the construction of publicly-funded governmental facility projects such as libraries, courts, police and fire stations, and infrastructure improvement projects such as roads, sanitary sewer extensions, walkways, bus stop shelters and storm water management improvement projects.

Penn Daw Fire Station, Emergency and Supportive Housing Penn Daw Fire Station, Emergency and Supportive Housing As planning developed on the Penn Daw Fire Station, the Hybla Valley Nursery site became available and was found to be an advantageous location for the new fire station. Pike Branch at Wilton Road Stream Stabilization Pike Branch at Wilton Road Stream Stabilization The project will restore approximately 1,300 linear feet of stream channel in the Cameron Run Watershed. Stormwater Projects Franconia District
Pimmit Run at George C. Marshall Drive Stream Restoration Project Pimmit Run at George C. Marshall Drive Stream Restoration Project The project will restore approximately 2,000 linear feet of degraded natural channel of Pimmit Run and approximately 300 linear feet of outfall leading to it. Piney Branch Tributary at Freda Drive Piney Branch Tributary at Freda Drive This project will restore approximately 1500 feet of a tributary to Piney Branch, with the intention of improving stormwater conveyance, protecting infrastructure, and reconnecting to the natural floodplain. Piney Run Tributary at Lamplighter Way Piney Run Tributary at Lamplighter Way The project will restore about 1,200 linear feet of natural stream channel and protect sanitary sewer infrastructure and private property near Lamplighter Way in Reston. Stormwater Projects Hunter Mill District
Rabbit Branch Tributary at Hickory Farms Rabbit Branch Tributary at Hickory Farms This project seeks to restore approximately 1500 linear feet of a tributary of Rabbit Branch in the Pohick Creek Watershed. Reconnecting the floodplain and stabilizing eroded slopes. Stormwater Projects Braddock District
Ravenwood Park Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Study Ravenwood Park Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Study This study will utilize PCSWMM one-dimensional and two-dimensional integrated modeling to analyze stormwater management in the Ravenwood Park neighborhood of Falls Church. Reston Arts Center Feasibility Study Reston Arts Center Feasibility Study The proposed arts center project may be possible as the result of a proffer. The proffer would provide for an arts center that houses a performing arts venue, as well as other arts-related amenities, that can be accommodated in 60,000 square feet. Reston Town Center North (RTCN) Reston Town Center North (RTCN) The Board of Supervisors envisions redeveloping irregularly-shaped parcels into a vibrant urban, mixed-use environment that complements Reston Town Center and surrounding development. Building Projects Hunter Mill District
Scott’s Run Siphon Rehabilitation Scott’s Run Siphon Rehabilitation This project is to rehabilitate the Fairfax County Scott’s Run wastewater collection siphon facility located in the Scott’s Run Nature Preserve and Carderock Recreational Area National Park.
