The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office held a commencement ceremony for inmates participating in a voluntary peer-led addiction treatment and recovery program in the Adult Detention Center. STAR - Striving to Achieve Recovery draws from cognitive-behavioral, experiential and Twelve Step approaches. The highly structured program addresses underlying trauma, restores dignity, provides hope and creates a sustainable plan for a sober future.
Sheriff Stacey Kincaid presented certificates to the participants who completed Phase 1, the first 90 days of the program.
Kincaid said, “Today is an opportunity to recognize their hard work, what they have achieved so far, and where they are going in terms of helping themselves. They are working toward something they have never before experienced, a sober lifestyle.”
