Fairfax County participates in Bike to Work Day every May, coordinating and hosting pit stops, celebrating those who ride their bikes to work and encouraging others to try this form of commuting.
Since 2019, Bike Fairfax has partnered with local houses of worship in August to present Bike and Walk to Worship Week, encouraging congregants to use alternative ways of going to church.
Explore the NOVA Loop Trail with a family-friendly NOVA Loop Trail Puzzle Hunt held through October and November.
Bike Fairfax also partners with schools across the County each year for Bike and Roll to School Day in May, and Walk and Roll to School Day in October, supporting safe and active transportation to school.

Learn to Ride & Bike Safety Rodeo - April 1, 2025
For new and beginning bike riders ages 4-12 who are ready to learn! The Learn to Ride bicycle education class will be held at Oakton Library, 10304 Lynnhaven Place, Oakton. Each rider should have a bike, a helmet and be accompanied by a parent. (Please use the contact form below if you need to borrow a bike and a helmet.) Please note: this class is full but FCPL has a wait list. Registration required.
Children ages 6-12 are invited to practice bike handling skills and safety practices on an interactive skills course in the Oakton Library parking lot. Each rider should have a bike, a helmet and be accompanied by a parent. (Please use the contact form below if you need to borrow a bike and a helmet.) There will be a trail ride after the Bike Safety Rodeo, which parents are welcome to join. Registration required.
Winter Bike to Work Day
***Due to hazardous conditions on the W&OD Trail, Winter Bike to Work Day has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 21.***
FCDOT's Active Fairfax program partnered with The Bike Lane, 11150 Sunset Hills Road in Reston (just off the W&OD Trail) to sponsor a pit stop for the 2025 Winter Bike to Work Day on Feb. 21, from 7:30-9:30 a.m.. Thanks to all who joined us for to celebrate winter commuting in the DMV!
2025 Trails and Sidewalks MLK Day Clean-Up Event
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather over the MLK holiday weekend, the MLK clean-up event will be held Saturday, Feb. 1.
Do you ever pass by litter when you're out biking or walking? In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on *Saturday, Feb. 1,* the Fairfax County Department of Transportation invites you to help clean up our trails and sidewalks around the County and pick up that litter!
Bike or walk your favorite trail or neighborhood sidewalk in the County - trash bag, gloves and track pickers recommended
Take a picture of your collected trash and email FCDOT for a chance to win a prize!
