2025 Winter Bike to Work Day - Friday, Feb. 21 (Re-scheduled)

Winter Bike to Work Day Feb. 21, 2025***Due to hazardous conditions on the W&OD Trail, Winter Bike to Work Day has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 21.***

FCDOT's Active Fairfax program is partnering with The Bike Lane, 11150 Sunset Hills Road in Reston (just off the W&OD Trail) to sponsor a pit stop for the 2025 Winter Bike to Work Day. Join FCDOT staff from 7:30-9:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 21, for coffee, donuts and bicycle safety giveaways as we celebrate winter commuting in the DMV!

  • Fairfax County participates in Bike to Work Day every May, coordinating and hosting pit stops, celebrating those who ride their bikes to work and encouraging others to try this form of commuting. Save the date for Bike to Work Day 2025, May 15.  
  • Bike Fairfax, along with Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling (FABB), celebrated Bike Your Park Day on Sept. 24, 2022, and continues to promote this event annually.
  • Since 2019, Bike Fairfax has partnered with local houses of worship in August to present Bike and Walk to Worship Week, encouraging congregants to use alternative ways of going to church. 
  • Bike Fairfax supports Bike to Market Week with the Fairfax County Park Authority every June.

2025 Trails and Sidewalks MLK Day Clean-Up Event


UPDATE: Due to inclement weather over the MLK holiday weekend, the MLK clean-up event will be held Saturday, Feb. 1. 
 

Do you ever pass by litter when you're out biking or walking? In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on *Saturday, Feb. 1,* the Fairfax County Department of Transportation invites you to help clean up our trails and sidewalks around the County and pick up that litter!

  1. Preregister with Volunteer Fairfax to make sure you are counted!
  2. Bike or walk your favorite trail or neighborhood sidewalk in the County - trash bag, gloves and track pickers recommended
  3. Take a picture of your collected trash and email FCDOT for a chance to win a prize!

2025 MLK Day Clean-Up Prizes:

  • Cinemark movie passes
  • First Watch gift cards
  • Meadowlark Botanical Gardens passes
  • Coffee for two from Peet's Coffee
  • Free annual Capital Bikeshare membership ($95 value)
  • Free bike locker access (with $50 deposit) or secure bike room access, good for one year
  • Gift cards from regional bike shops

Students seeking credit for community service requirements should email FCDOT with their time and location worked along with a picture of their collection efforts.

Bike Your Park Day 2018
Congressman Gerry Connolly helps kick off the 2018 Bike Your Park Day ride at Wakefield Park in Annandale.

  • Bike Fairfax joined the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development Community Revitalization Section and the Fairfax County Park Authority at the Annandale Pop-Up Park, Aug. 24, 2019.
  • Bike Fairfax and the Fairfax County Park Authority joined together to host a special Inaugural Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail Ride on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.
  • Bike Fairfax and the Tysons Partnership hosted a lunchtime bike ride around Tysons on Friday, April 27, 2018, to commemorate Earth Day.
  • Photos of the group ride from Summer 2017 around the Woodlawn section of Alexandria are posted on our Fairfax Connector Facebook page.
