(Posted 2024 May)

woman and young girl smilingOne of springtime’s greatest joys is the sound of children playing. And the recent BeFriend-A-Child program’s Annual Spring Gathering provided ample opportunities to experience this joy of spring.

Our program participants look forward to this event each year. Unlike most of the bimonthly BeFriend-A-Child group events attended by the mentors and the mentees in the program, this annual event is open to the mentees’ families as well. It’s a great time for parents, caregivers, and siblings to fellowship, let down their hair, and enjoy a bit of the fun!

The event this year was bigger than ever, and there was no shortage of fun to be had! The mentors, mentees and their families, program staff, and DFS volunteers were all smiles as they enjoyed soccer lessons, arts and crafts, carousel rides, and raffles galore!

Thank you to all the sponsors and donors who helped make this such a special day for our families. Pot Belly Fairfax provided sandwiches, Cake4Kids worked with local volunteer bakers to provide cupcakes, and Baroody Camps, Inc. provided the soccer clinic.

Check out some of the photos to get a glimpse of the fun! Better yet, if you have time to spare, feel free to reach out to DFSBefriend-A-Child@fairfaxcounty.gov to inquire about how you can volunteer to be a part of the fun at our upcoming events!
