Volunteer and Partner Services is ramping up our 2024 Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program. If you are interested in making a true impact during the holiday season, please sign-up to adopt one or more families. Once you are matched with a family, you’ll receive their personalized wish list to be able to shop for items they want and need and, in the true spirit of the holidays, give back to those in need.
Supporting Adopt-A-Family is one way that individual donors and groups such as businesses, schools, and faith-based organizations can make a huge difference in the lives of children and families who are involved with the Department of Family Services. Last year, 529 generous donors partnered with our agency to provide gifts valued at more than $355,000. This outrageous generosity helped 729 Fairfax County families make lasting holiday memories.
Help us reach even more families this year! To become a donor, begin by filling out an Adopt-A-Family Donor Form, and selecting your preferences. Here are six things to know about the program before you get started:
- The program only accepts new, unused, unwrapped, unopened gifts.
- You should purchase gifts based on the wish lists provided.
- VPS welcomes donations of gift wrap and bags.
- Donors must coordinate the drop off time with the caseworker assigned to the family or delivery via mail to their regional office.
- Expect to spend between $125-$150 for 4-5 gifts per child, along with clothing.
- If possible, provide a $50-$100 gift card to a big box store for the parent(s)/caregiver(s).
If you are looking for other ways to support families this season and year-round, here are some ideas:
- VPS accepts monetary donations in the form of gift cards and checks.
- Support children in our community by hosting a new toy drive.
- Purchase frequently requested baby items on our Amazon Wish List.
- Check out more ways to make an impact.
However you choose to support our community, it is always appreciated! If you have any questions about our Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program, ways to give back, or want to inquire about other ways to support us, please feel free to email us.
