The BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program rolled out another fantastic roller-skating event! Mentors and mentees hit the rink together, strengthening connections and boosting group cohesion as they laughed, learned, and skated side by side. Even those lacing up skates for the first time dove in with enthusiasm, cheered on by the rest of the group.

The event had a great mix of activities including plenty of time on the rink, lots of socializing, plus pizza, drinks, laser tag, and arcade games. Conversation flowed easily, and there were countless positive, genuine interactions throughout the night.

On the rink, mentees showed real courage. Some took a tumble, but they got right back up and kept going. More experienced skaters stepped in to guide beginners, offering encouragement, tips, and a steady hand when needed. The atmosphere was supportive, energetic, and fun from start to finish. Overall, it was a highly positive experience, and everyone seemed to leave with smiles, stories, and stronger bonds.

Mentoring plays a vital role in the growth and development of children. From building self-esteem to promoting educational success, the influence of a caring adult can be transformative. Volunteers are essential to providing children with the support they need to overcome challenges and realize their potential.

If you want to make a difference for a child and you are available on the weekends, the BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program may be the opportunity for you. You can even work around your schedule to spend time with your mentee. Build up a child’s social skills, increase their self-esteem and help them overcome challenges. The next training for new mentors will take place virtually on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Learn more about the program or apply online.
