Volunteers at Volunteer and Partner Services Appreciation Dinner

The Department of Family Services’ Body Safety Program is recruiting volunteer facilitators to help prevent and interrupt child abuse in our community. It’s easy to get started—and you can make a significant impact in just a few hours each week. If you can speak Spanish, we especially can use your help.

What Volunteers Do
Volunteer facilitators teach eight–12 classes per month (45–60 minutes each) during the school year. We visit a different elementary school each week, and classes take place on weekdays during the school day. This role is a great fit if you:

  • Are retired, not currently working, or otherwise available during weekday school hours.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Want to be part of a mission-driven, supportive team.

If you are a full-time employee who works standard daytime hours, this opportunity likely will not fit your schedule.

What We Offer

  • Flexible scheduling based on your availability.
  • Thorough training and ongoing, onsite staff support.
  • The opportunity to choose the classes/grade levels you prefer.
  • Technical support.

How to Get Started
We are currently onboarding new volunteers for the 2026-2027 school year. If you’re interested, your first step is to apply online. We will follow up with you with next steps to prepare you for the orientation on Thursday, August 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have questions, call 703-345-8453 or learn more on our website.
