Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Daphne Yang

(Posted 2021 February)

Daphne Yang outside in snowDaphne Yang explained that she has two people to thank for telling her about Volunteer Solutions (VS) a few years ago. On separate occasions, her pastor’s wife (a Fairfax County employee) and her homeowner’s association president (a Volunteer Solutions volunteer), told her about the good that VS volunteers were doing for people in the community.

Daphne became a VS volunteer in 2018. Pre-pandemic, she drove older adults to doctors’ appointments, helped with grocery shopping, and made social visits.

Tasks changed due to COVID-safety precautions and she generously gave several hours on two yard clean-up projects, raking and bagging leaves. She’s also a virtual social visitor and periodically calls two older ladies to check on their well-being. She is boosting their morale by reminding them someone cares.

Daphne shared, “Helping others makes me happy. I meet people and learn from volunteering.”

Volunteer Solutions is thankful for Daphne, and others like her, who have been flexible as roles shifted.
