Volunteer Solutions is grateful to the volunteers who have continued to serve virtually, even throughout the pandemic, as well as those who have returned in-person. Both, virtual and in-person volunteer opportunities will remain options. In-person volunteer opportunities have vaccination requirements.
There has been a spotlight on social isolation throughout the pandemic. Reducing feelings of isolation among older adults and adults with disabilities and their caregivers have always been an integral part of Volunteer Solutions’ programming. With this important issue at the forefront of many discussions, we have implemented, and continue to incorporate additional opportunities to increase social connection.
There are two volunteer opportunities which help address this issue with Meals on Wheels (MOW) recipient.
Volunteers can help with the Mealtime Visitor Program. They can visit with recipients to socialize and share a meal and/or call MOW recipients who wish to receive additional check-ins to socialize and check on their well-being regularly.
Another social isolation prevention program is the Animatronic Pets (Companion Pets) program. These realistic pets add a sense of comfort to people who feel lonely, without the added responsibilities of pet ownership. Volunteer Solutions will be managing a pilot program for distribution of Companion Pets to clients who are identified by their case managers as being at risk for social isolation.
We appreciate our loyal volunteers who have continued to serve throughout the pandemic and welcome those who have recently joined us, too. Thank you for the hope and light you bring to our community through your acts of kindness.
