Office of the Fire Marshal Fee Changes Effective July 1, 2026
Starting July 1, Fairfax County will implement updated fee schedules for the Office of the Fire Marshal along with Land Development Services (LDS) and zoning applications. The adjustments are intended to reflect the increase in costs related to inflation and personnel over recent years while ensuring the continuation of high-quality county services.
UPDATES TO FEE SCHEDULE
Office of the Fire Marshal will implement fee increases on plan review time, inspection time, flat rate inspections and Fire Prevention Code Permits by approximately 5% on July 1, 2026. Technology surcharge fees will remain flat with no increase for Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27). You can see a full list of fee changes in the Chapter 62 Staff Report.

All fee changes will apply to applications approved and work performed beginning July 1, 2026.
2021 Codes in Effect
On January 18, 2024, the 2021 Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC) and the 2021 Virginia Construction Code (VCC) were adopted by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The 2021 SFPC is live and the enforced code. There is a one-year grace period for the 2018 VCC and new construction may either use 2018 or 2021 editions. Once the code edition has been chosen, you must use that code edition and the reference standards within it for the duration of the project. In January 2025, the 2018 VCC grace period will expire and only the 2021 VCC will be the building code for new work.
