Join me at noon on May 13 for the Dave Evans Memorial Ball Field Dedication at Walt Whitman MS, in coordination with the Evans Family and Fort Hunt Softball. Dave was not only my best friend and the inspiration behind our annual Tour de Mount Vernon, but also a loving father and husband, community champion, softball coach and Fort Hunt Softball Board member, United Community and Good Shepherd Housing Treasurer and Board member and owner/operator of award winning La Prima Catering.

On behalf of County Supervisor Dan Storck and the Fort Hunt Softball Board, I wanted to extend an invitation to join us along with the family of a true champion of Fort Hunt Softball, the late Dave Evans, as we dedicate the field known to many as Walt Whitman 1 in Dave's memory.  

Dave's sudden passing caught all who knew him by surprise.  I first met Dave when our daughter began playing softball over a decade ago.  At that time he was serving on the Board, a dedicated member of our community continuing to give to the youth in the Fort Hunt area.  He was instrumental in the efforts to light the field at Whitman, laid the groundwork for the improvements to field 2 and did so much more.  

Over a year ago Supervisor Storck approached the Board with the idea of dedicating this field in memory of his great friend.  Since that time he has worked tirelessly to see this project through.  In addition, he gave full support to a beautification effort that we asked for - the planting of trees near Dave Evans Field to provide shade, improve rainwater runoff and further memorialize Dave for decades to come.  

Please, plan on joining us at Walt Whitman Middle School Field 1 on the 13th of May.  The ceremony will start at 12:00.  Come early and watch a game, link up with old friends, and help us remember Dave in the best way Fort Hunt Softball can - having a great day on the field he cared so much about.
