Several years ago I started my tradition of taking a First Hike on New Year's Day! I love getting out in nature to clear my head and enjoy the wildlife. I invite you all to join me and Bureau of Land Management, Lower Potomac Field Station for a First Hike on January 1, 2026, at 10 a.m. starting at Mustang Trailhead at Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area. 

The Bureau of Land Management, Lower Potomac Field Station will join us and share some information on projects they are working on and help us navigate the Mustang Trail and Thompson Creek Loop for a 2.5-mile hike. If you are looking for an abbreviated hike, the Mustang Trail is only 0.7 miles. I hope to see you on January 1 to kick off the new year on the right foot! 

Please note: this is a natural surface trail and not wheelchair friendly.
