Tour de Mount Vernon

Thank you for another great Tour de Mount Vernon!

This year's Tour de Mount Vernon was a great success! In total, 183 registered riders came from all over the county to enjoy the crisp weather and rich cultural history of the Mount Vernon District along the 35-mile ride. The cyclists who attended the event represented a total of 25 different towns! We also served 25 gallons of hot sweet potato chili along with chips and cookies- cycling can work up an appetite.

The riders lined up at 8:15 and were headed out on the trails by 8:30. By 10:15 the first five riders made it back to the Workhouse Arts Center. A big congratulation goes out to them:

  1. Juan Carlos Zambrana
  2. James Patterson
  3. Dale Castellow
  4. Christian Schultz
  5. Dylan Kemelor

Our office would like to thank:

Spokes Etc., a locally owned Fairfax bicycle shop, who contributed a great amount of support, providing two $120.00 Deluxe Bike Tune-ups and bike shirts, as well as a Support and Gear (SAG) vehicle and bicycle repairs during the event.

Ron Taylor, the owner of Wheel Nuts Bike Shop, who pitched in to help along with his wife Trina, serving as riding marshals for the event. Together they donated a $100 Bike Tune-Up, bicycle tools and baseball caps. Ron even repaired a rider's bike at Woodlawn when his chain came off.

Our 35 volunteers who assisted in preparing registration packets, marking the 35-mile trail, spray painting direction signals and setting up furniture.
