DPWES Projects

The Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) builds and maintains safe, reliable infrastructure that protects public health and the environment, improves quality of life for residents. Capital Facilities refers to the construction of publicly-funded governmental facility projects such as libraries, courts, police and fire stations, and infrastructure improvement projects such as roads, sanitary sewer extensions, walkways, bus stop shelters and storm water management improvement projects.

Rocky Branch at Hickory Hollow Lane Stream Restoration Rocky Branch at Hickory Hollow Lane Stream Restoration The project will restore approximately 3,818 linear feet of degraded natural channel of Rocky Branch and its tributaries between Hunter Mill Road and Hill Road. Stormwater and Wastewater Consolidation Facility Stormwater and Wastewater Consolidation Facility The new Stormwater Wastewater Facility is an eight-building campus. The project will consolidate County services for increased efficiency while targeting LEED Gold certification and offering educational opportunities for the community. Sunset Hills Road Drainage Improvement Project Sunset Hills Road Drainage Improvement Project This project will reduce flooding upstream of the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park around Sunset Hills Road near Isaac Newton Square W in Reston. Stormwater Projects Hunter Mill District
The Commons Mount Vernon The Commons Mount Vernon Fairfax County is excited to announce The Commons Mount Vernon as the new name for the highly anticipated “Human Development Center.” This renovation and adaptive reuse project of the original Mount Vernon High School will provide pathways to opportunity Building Projects Mount Vernon District

Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project This neighborhood stormwater improvement project will evaluate existing drainage and stormwater infrastructure throughout the neighborhoods in the vicinity of Tucker Avenue and within a 67 acre drainage area that leads to the local stream, Pimmit Run.
