On July 18, 2022, an inmate in the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office passed away while being treated at a hospital for a long standing medical issue unrelated to the inmate’s confinement. Sheriff’s Office policy dictates that an in-custody death must be investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department. That investigation is currently underway.
