Fairfax Sheriff's Deputies Make Drug Arrest at Judicial Complex

September 4, 2018

The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and its Court Security Branch are responsible for ensuring safety and security inside the Fairfax County Courthouse and for enforcing the law throughout the 52-acre Judicial Complex.

While on bike patrol, two deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the public parking garage near the pay booth. They followed the odor, which led them to a red Nissan exiting the garage. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and interviewed the driver and three passengers. The odor was clearly coming from the vehicle. During questioning, the driver initially denied having marijuana, but one of the passengers subsequently admitted to it and handed over five marijuana-filled packets. The deputies conducted a pat down of the four vehicle occupants and a probable cause search of the vehicle. They found drug paraphernalia, 11 capsules of hashish oil, 23 more hashish oil capsules intended for vape or juul devices, and a prescription bottle containing hydrocodone. They also found edible items suspected of containing THC.

A deputy read the suspects their rights at which point the driver claimed ownership of all the items. He was arrested and transported to the Adult Detention Center. He was charged with possession of schedule I/II drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession with intent to manufacture/sell/distribute. A passenger was given a summons for possession of marijuana and released. The Nissan was inventoried and towed.
